Over the holidays I’ve spent more time than usual online, and I have to keep reminding myself that everyone is on their own journey.
It’s so easy to compare yourself to someone who is living a laptop lifestyle, travelling the world, making lots of money, has loads of engaged followers, and feel like a failure. What you forget is the person you’re looking at could’ve been doing it for a few months or a few years more than you.
Many ‘overnight successes’ are not really overnight at all. But rather months and years of hard work, all coming together to build and create a successful business. So when you see someone who seems to have it all, when you’re struggling to get new customers or to make decent profits, chances are they’ve been at it longer than you have.
Persevere. Show up. Consistently. And it will pay off.
Bear in mind too, that success is not a destination, a point in time, but rather a journey. If you’re lucky a never-ending one. The beauty of being an entrepreneur is that you have the freedom to spend as much or as little time as you like on your business. So work out what it is that YOU want, and then focus solely on that. You’re bound to get distracted, we all do, but be aware and have a plan so that when it happens you can get back on track quickly.
We’re all on our own journey. Mine may look very different from yours and that’s ok. In fact it’s expected.
So next time you start comparing yourself to others remember this is YOUR journey. Embrace it!
